Kb's Press Release
Tot’s nursery turns 10!
Local nursery celebrates its first decade by raising funds for
Alpha-1 Awareness charity.
To celebrate its 10th birthday, Kb’s Day Nursery in Benenden, Cranbrook, is holding a fundraising coffee morning on Saturday 10 July 2010, from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
Children attending Kb’s are collecting a tonne of fabrics and textiles which will be recycled through the ‘Phil the Bag’ scheme in return for £350. This money will be donated to the Alpha-1 Awareness charity that supports people with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. One of Kb’s former children has this condition which can lead to liver disease and also seriously affect the lungs, causing emphysema as early as the age of 30.
Kb’s Day Nursery is located on Wood Lane, near Benenden Hospital. It was established in 2001 by Suzanne Kennedy, a nurse at the hospital. Suzanne was concerned with the lack of local childcare facilities providing full day care. So, ‘Kennedy’s Babes’ was set up, originally with 19 children. Kb’s can now care for up to 35 children, from three months of age to seven years.
With extended operating hours – 7am to 7pm – Kb’s supports many local families.
Mother and Alpha-1 Awareness supporter, Emma O’Reilly, commented, “Kb’s is a fantastic nursery with an amazing outside space away from busy, polluted roads. This is really important for all children, but particularly those with allergies, asthma or more serious lung conditions. The children all love the wigwam, willow tunnels and especially the mud pit!”
Kb’s coffee morning will include a variety of animals so that the children can further enjoy the fun of the great outdoors. Other traditional summer fete activities will also be available. Visitors are welcome to attend and experience Kb’s for themselves, whilst supporting an important charity.
Donations of clothes, fabrics and textiles should be made to Kb’s Day Nursery, 7 Wood Lane, East End, Benenden TN17 4BE. Please call 01580 240928 for more information.
